Greetings,

Well the last day of the PC Fair was today (Sunday) so I decided to STFU and get myself a router-modem. I didnt really need a wireless one, but if the price was close to the normal router modem I didnt mind picking that up. As I got there, a friend and myself roamed the fair floor, gawking at hot girlies (SONY and Intel were really hot) we came across loads of networking stuff. I was only intrested in Linksys or D-Link (goooo cisco!)

All I came across was a router modem by D-Link, and get this, with ONE port. Now WTF am I supposed to do with a router modem with ONE PORT? D-Link does make others, but they are not yet in Malaysia. So I had 2 options, get a router (or a wireless router) AND an ADSL modem, or, wait for a new model to come available.

I'm waiting. I dont need more equiptment in my room, and I'm running out of power points.

She Is Gone
Thursday, November 04, 2004 | Author: Dav
You can shed tears that she is gone
or you can smile because she has lived.

You can close your eyes and pray that she’ll come back
or you can open your eyes and see all she’s left.

Your heart can be empty because you can’t see her
or you can be full of the love you shared.

You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday
or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.

You can remember her and only that she’s gone
or you can cherish her memory and let it live on.

You can cry and close your mind,
be empty and turn your back
or you can do what she’d want:
smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

- for my mother's family.
We all leave sometime or another...
Thursday, November 04, 2004 | Author: Dav
Grandmother passed away Monday morning, 4 am. It was a sad day for everyone, even more so for my mother’s family, as they loved her well.

I’ve spent 3 days away from work attending her funeral, and I think maybe detailing what went on for those 3 days might help others get a rough understanding of what it takes to actually go through with a Punjabi funeral (mind you, these are just a collection of my thoughts and items that I remember, so they may be wrong, not in the correct order, or just plain weird. Nothing new I guess for the rest of you out there  )

Ok lets see, where to start. Well she passed on early Monday morning around 2am, and the family decided to hold her body in the hospital mortuary, as they had informed my two uncles who resided in the UK to fly back in time for the actual funeral. The funeral was held on Wednesday, so I’ll just gloss over what went on from Monday to Tuesday.

On Wednesday itself, they brought her body home to my grandparent’s house, and she was bathed and cleaned, along with some morning prayers for her. She was dressed in her finest Punjabi suit, and along that my brother found out that she had prepared some clothing and jewelry for his wedding, which was planned for next year. That was a blow to him, because right up to that things were going ok.

After the actual washing, she was placed on a traditional bed called the menja (a bed made of a wood frame, laced with rope made of the jut plant as the mattress support, with a thick blanket then placed on top of the rope-lattice work as a mattress.

Around about then the flowers and wreaths we ordered arrived, one for each daughter/son. There were about… er… 13 or so (yes, my mother’s family was a large one)

We placed the flowers and wreaths around her and the bed, and made sure things were ok. The main reason this was actually done was for the actual wake, where visitors and other close family members could pay their last respects (pretty much like most funerals I guess).

*cue the custom crying*

*
Edit: I am not against it just that it drains so much from people, and I don’t like seeing that go on and on.
*

About now people started drifting in to pay their respects, as grandmother was well known in her hometown for her generous heart. This space of time I was busy cutting, cleaning, and ferrying stuff around, so I’ll gloss over that as well.

About 11am, an uncle informed me that they needed some assistance in the charnel house (the area didn’t have an electrical crematorium) and we hauled arse over. Once there, we met up with the person in charge, and he informed us on what he needed us to do. He had a pile of rubber wood trees, chopped into large quarter blocks of firewood, and he had setup the basic funeral pyre, neatly into a ‘bed’ lined with old car tyre inner-tubes (ok, look, I’m not going to get into a discussion on environmentalism here ok?) We helped his stack up the pyre, and when we were done, we thanked him well and made our way back to the house.

Cue more time consuming chores here.

Around 2pm, the hearse arrived and we helped bearer grandmother into the hearse, heaping up the wreaths and flowers on top of the hearse.

We arrived at the charnel house, and the priest recited prayers as grandmother was placed on the funeral pyre.

I think I’ll end this here, as you can figure out what happened next.

I pass on my sincerest and deepest sense of condolences to my grandfather, and my mother’s family on their loss.

Rest in peace grandmother.

What I heard on the radio today
Thursday, October 28, 2004 | Author: Dav
Greetings!

Well its another day and I find myself stuck in traffic since I drove to work today (because I need to pick my dad and mom from the airport - back from their holi in HK), and suddenly someone on the radio starts opening up the phone lines for a joke telling session.

This was by far the funniest I heard. (well for me at least)

Q: How do you get an elephant in a fridge?
A: You open up the fridge door and put the elephant in of course!

Q: How do you get a camel in a fridge?
A: You open up the fridge door, get the elephant out, then put the camel in!

Q: The Lion, being the king of the jungle, called for a meeting. As the lion headed to the meeting site, he came across a river known for its aligators. How is the lion to cross ?
A: The lion swims across, because all the animals in the jungle are at the meeting site already, including the aligators.

Q: At the meeting, there was one animal that didnt show up. Which animal was that?
A: The camel, since he's still in the fridge.

Ok ok so it was kind of lame, so sue me :)

So I'm at home and I'm wondering just how much is enough? How much of money can you make in a month, and is that amount enough? Are you going to work twice as hard next month so you can get two times more then what you got last month? Will there be an 'upper limit' or is it just going to be an X=Y graph, always going up, never ending?

How much time can you spend playing, or resting, or working even?

Is it all worth it?

It took me 10 minutes to get out of bed and into the shower, but when I'm done I find that our fridge has chilled the milk too much to my taste (in my cornflakes) and I stumble over to the microwave. Now I've had soo much to do over the weekend, including a client's dinner where I came into contact with a magical item called the "Never Go Empty Beer Glass" which in its self was a wonderfull thing, but it sort of explains why I'm so gorggy today.
I slide my cup of milk into the microwave, punch the 'High' button and press 40 seconds. I then press the 'Cancel'. Then I stand there like an idiot for a few seconds, before I slap my forhead and do the whole thing again, 'High', 40 seconds... then I press CANCEL AGAIN! This goes on for a few times before I give up and have cold COLD milk for my cereal.

What a morning
Thursday, July 22, 2004 | Author: Dav
What a morning..

I got home last night around 9 pm from work, and I dragged my carcass into the shower and then on to the couch and just sat there for a while before going to bed. I was too tired to bother with Counter Strike with my brother, even if its really fun to put a bullet through his head and watch him fly back (even if I'm playing with a handicap, he has 2 bots on his side).

I wake up today and look at the watch, and it says 8am. Now, on a usual day when I’m driving the company car, I’m out of the house by 8.00am-8.15am. So yeah, I’m late.

I rush down and get ready for work, grab a slice of toast and jump in the car, and drive off at about 8.20am. When I was making my way to the company car, and I don’t FIND IT! Jebus! This was because I usually park it a little ways down the road, since my neighbors park their cars opposite my home as well. Last night, there was a spot just in front of my house. So this morning I walked down the road and couldn’t find the car. Really made me worried there, before I remembered I parked it right in front.

Things seem ok for now.

So here I am sitting in heavy traffic when I notice the lady in the other car next to me staring at me. I look at her back, and she turns away. Wondering what’s going on, I take a look at myself in the rear view mirror, and I see that I haven’t combed my hair. It was all spiky and wet and stuff, because when I was busy getting ready, I stood infront of the mirror and was applying hair cream, but I DIDN’T COMB MY HAIR after that. Poop. So by now I’m freaking out and I check to see if I put on any pants.
I did.
So that’s a good thing I guess.

Meh.

Got to work on time. Tummy upset now :-(

Movies and popcorn!
Tuesday, July 20, 2004 | Author: Dav
Greetings!
Well I took a day off with Azzy on Monday and we went to the movies, basicly we watched Spiderman 2 and Arthur in a row (well there was a 10 minute break in between).
Both movies rocked and I already have a few movies I really want to see, like I,Robot and Aliens vs Pred and um...some...other...movies..er. yeah ok enough about that.

My take on Spiderman 2:
Overall, it rocked, really. It showed P.Parker as a human, not as Spiderman, and that as a human he could be hurt and stuff. OK yeha whatever that shit is cool and all but I felt that the CGI could have been better, since some shots of Spiderman looked out of place in the movie, like you could still see it was computer graphics. Oh well, cant have em all can we?
Next were a few smaller issues, but I guess I'll just gloss over them, like that mini sun in the river but no steam or heat showing. Blah. :)

My take on Arthur:
Overall, it rocked (heheheh). Well it did. But I would have liked it if it had just a tad more blood, like Gladiator. The pace was good, and there were some sappy bits in there, but I liked it alot. A big move from the 'standard' King Arthur fare. No magic at ALL. Kind of cool.

Ok ok before I get hate mail and stuff, these are just stuff I thought off when I watched both movies. Again, as I mentioned, both movies were really really cool.

Watch them, and enjoy.
